Supporting Brighton's pubs

Caroline behind a pub bar

This an opportunity to promote and celebrate Brighton’s breweries and pubs, which are an important part of our city’s economy but are under threat from restrictive contracts.

During the last Parliament I worked towards measures that offer better protection to landlords from big pub chains. For example, I tabled Parliamentary Questions and an Early Day Motion to press ministers to improve national planning rules around ‘change of use’ of pubs. This was a key issue in the campaign to save the Caroline of Brunswick pub. I’ve been pleased to back several community campaigns around local pubs, such as the drive behind the “pub built by Brighton”, the Bison Arms.

Well-run community pubs play a crucial role in local life and can have a huge impact on people’s happiness and social inclusion. If elected, I will continue to show my support in the next Parliament.
