Standing up to prejudice - Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Trust

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place this Sunday (27 January), marking the 68th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi concentration and extermination camp.

In the weeks running up to the day, the Holocaust Educational Trust placed a Book of Commitment in the House of Commons to give MPs the chance to honour all those who were persecuted and killed during the Holocaust.

I signed the Book this week to pay tribute to those who perished during the Holocaust and to honour the Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly through the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Outreach programme to educate young people about what they endured.

Thousands of commemorative events are taking place in schools, faith groups and community organisations across the UK this week to remember the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

It's also a valuable opportunity for communities to think about ways to work together to combat prejudice and racism where it still exists today.
