MY RESPONSE TO THE CHANCELLOR'S STATEMENT

I’m pleased the Government has listened in the last few days and lifted the arbitrary £30k cut off point, which threatened to leave millions of hardworking, self-employed people with nothing and having to rely on savings to get them through this crisis.  There was a glaring unfairness to this, and I’m relieved the Chancellor recognised this.

But it is very worrying that the self-employed may have to wait until early June before they are able to access the support the Government is promising.  Pointing them in the direction of Universal Credit is not the answer.  We know that the DWP is overwhelmed with applications.  Self-employed people need financial support now.

Many who have been contacting me saw their incomes plummet or disappear in early March.  They cannot survive for three months without more support.
