Caroline: Statuatory PSHE vital to tackling sexual harrasment and violence

Caroline Lucas has responded to a report by the Women's and Equalities Committee [1] which slams the Government for having no coherent plan for tackling sexual harrasment and sexual violence. Her response comes ahead of her presenting a PSHE bill to Parliament [2].

Caroline Lucas MP said:

“The findings of this report are damning, but not surprising. Sexual harassment and sexual violence are widespread and particularly affect girls. It’s clear time for urgent action.

“Ministers must not overlook their responsibility to urgently equip children with the skills and knowledge they need to make informed, respectful choices about their behaviour– the case is overwhelming. As the report states Ministers should immediately make PSHE and SRE statutory subjects – there’s no excuse for further hesitation.”
