Letter to David Cameron MP - Prime Minister - 1 December 2010

The Rt Hon David Cameron MP

Dear Prime Minister,

Schools' Sports Partnership

I warmly welcome your comments made today during Prime Minister's Question Time suggesting that you are open to reviewing the decision to scrap the Schools' Sports Partnership and are working with head teachers to come up with a revised plan to protect the statutory minimum of two hours' PE per week that 95% of children in state schools now enjoy.

Many Brighton children have experienced the benefits of the Schools' Sport Partnership, which include tackling childhood obesity; preventing bullying and building leadership qualities; improving academic achievement; and giving young people an opportunity to become the great athletes of the future. As you know the partnership has also radically transformed PE teaching in schools.

Thank you for listening to the many teachers and parents who want to see the £162 million sports in schools budget reinstated and I look forward to the announcement you advised is forthcoming.

Yours sincerely,

Caroline Lucas, MP, Brighton Pavilion
