Visit to Whoopsadaisy

Whoopsadaisy holds Parent and Child groups for children up to 5 years.

As well as being beneficial in themselves, the sessions are a chance for parents to learn more about how to help their children in their everyday life at home.

Older children aged 5 to 12 years are also supported at Whoopsadaisy through a Saturday School and Holiday Clubs.

The charity does amazing work and it was lovely to meet some of the younger children yesterday morning.

It reminded me of the importance of quality support for children with disabilities and their parents.

This can make such a difference to whole families, both to the confidence of a child, and to the ability of parents to care for their children – and for themselves.

I highlighted this during the passage of the Children and Families Bill earlier in this Parliamentary session, making representations on behalf of local parents and arguing for increased provision of resources for disabled children and those with special needs.

Inspired by the fantastic work of Whoopsadaisy I’ll continue to argue that children with disabilities have the right to education and to care that meets their needs.
