Letter in the Times on the EU Referendum

Green politicians have had a letter published in The Times (12/11) in response to David Cameron's EU renegotiation demands.

Letter:

Sir,

David Cameron's EU proposals come as no surprise: restricting migrants' rights to social security, weakening rules that control unscrupulous corporations, and further backing for the City of London. Protecting the environment and tackling climate change do not get a mention. It seems that Cameron wants to reduce the EU to little more than a deregulated free market- an approach that your leader (Looser Union, Nov 11) appears to endorse.

Britain should remain part of the EU because countries and people flourish when we work together on the shared challenges we face. But Cameron's obsession with deregulation is bad news for consumers, our environment and innovation. It simply isn't the case that carving out regulatory exceptions for British finance helps UK citizens.

The Prime Minister is also wrong to target free movement. We are richer - financially and culturally - when we share our lives and communities with people from across Europe.
