Labour for Caroline

More and more traditional Labour supporters are backing Caroline in Brighton Pavilion. Here just a few of them explain their reasons why:

"Caroline Lucas is an outstanding MP, one of the best. Also the Greens have a whole raft of policies that I have agreed with for a long while and voting Labour for nearly 30 years has not stopped a relentless rise in inequality and decline in quality of life. In short, I'm fed up of waiting for Labour to improve. Unlike the Greens, Labour have no positive vision for how to improve society."
NEIL HARDING - CityClean employee

“I have supported Labour for most of my adult life, switching my vote to the Green Party when, like many, I became disaffected with policy on Iraq.  In my view Caroline Lucas has been a fantastic MP for Brighton Pavilion since 2010, providing a valuable left of centre voice in parliament, free of the influence of big party whips and hence able to speak without compromise on issues such as human rights, gender equality and the environment.... the best left wing MP ever to have represented this city”
ANTHONY SMITH - Hanover and Elm Grove

"I'm voting for Caroline Lucas again because she is an active and proactive MP and genuinely seems to want to represent her constituents. She is one of the few true left of centre MPs who focuses on real politics and not petty politics!"
LLINOS EVANS - Hanover and Elm Grove

"I’ve been amazed at the number of residents who have been directly helped by Caroline or who know someone who has been. How she combines a national profile with warm personal contact with local people is truly remarkable. We are fortunate to have her."
JACK HAZELGROVE - Former Brighton & Hove Labour councillor

“I’m a Labour Party member and have been most of my life. However, my wife and I were very distressed to learn that Labour will be fielding a candidate to stand against Caroline Lucas in Brighton Pavilion at the next General Election. Whatever discussions have gone on behind the scenes, the fact is that Caroline is an absolutely first-rate MP---and if necessary, my wife and I (and many Labour-leaning friends) will work and vote for her in preference to the Labour candidate. I urge the Party to reconsider its position in this particular constituency.”
GEORGE IRVIN - Labour member

“I nominated Caroline Lucas because she has so many of the attributes we need in our representative. She combines being an active local MP, representing and protecting the interests of Pavilion residents - at the same time as having a wide knowledge and involvement in the big challenges facing us all in the future. She is the leader for the just and sustainable society we need.”
JOYCE EDMOND-SMITH - Former Brighton & Hove Labour councillor

“Congratulations on making the speech - during the Welfare Benefits Uprating Bill debate today - which the Labour Party front bench should have been making. I note that very few senior Labour figures were even present in the Commons late this afternoon. I'm a Labour Party member, but I think it is shameful that 'official' opposition spokespeople have failed to mount any serious or determined resistance to this measure, which, as you rightly highlighted, will - by design or default - victimise the poorest in society, particularly with the failure to associate benefit increase with the retail price index.

The Government has been effective in marshaling public opinion against claimants and it is unfortunate that Labour are too sensitive about  media reaction ahead of the next election, to lead a decent fight against these punitive measures. Well done for forcefully drawing attention to the Government's thinly-veiled attempt to penalise the poor for the previous misdeeds of the rich.”
BERNIE COLLINS - Labour member

"I have been wanting to get back to my natural home, Labour, but feel that it will only be more of the same, both at Westminster and constituency level. You have certainly earned my vote!"
CAROL CHALMERS - Brighton Resident
