On the campaign trail - Safer Surrenden, the High School, Guardian filming and canvassing

Another jam packed day! I had an early start with Councillor Amy Kennedy and the Safer Surrenden group, where we met with local residents and the PCSO to talk about the urgent need for a crossing and yellow lines on a road which children cross to get to school. In just half a hour of us standing at the junction of Surrenden and Harrington roads, I witnessed two near misses - the area is incredibly dangerous for children and their parents. Amy will be chasing this up at the next Council meeting in March - hopefully swift action will ensue.

Next up was John Harris from the Guardian, who is filming a series about election battlegrounds. Had an interesting interview, and he filmed us gathering signatures for our 20's Plenty campaign - pleased at just how much support there is for this locally, I really hope the council will take it on board.

Then went to Brighton and Hove High School for a Q&A session, and left more convinced than ever that the voting age should be reduced. If 16 year olds are allowed to join the army, have children and pay taxes, they should have a say in who governs them. 16 year olds have the ability to sit down and think about what they want from those in power - we should let them exercise it.

To finish off the day, a cold evening out canvassing - feet numb but spirit warmed by the positive response on the doorsteps.
